west-coast fires

(6-words stories)

stampede of heat all around us

'keep out' signs done with flames

animals of all kinds, on alert

wicked distortions then begin to appear

maps in our heads, becoming real

concerns about others, cross our minds

common sense facing as catastrophic scales

sight, searching through smoke, for recognitions

gathering goods but fearing for life

sounds of blaze over muted sirens

memories on hold, now's ever pressing

a strained kind of togetherness needed

current mood at affects of circumstance

yearning, as a kind of prayer

scans of the past, flash by

people priorities over personal possessions, lost

there's sighs remembering, having been there . . .
