Popular board stories
that trees remember,
are reflections upon their relatives,
those who have gone before them.
Urban myths
that have been claimed
as construction
of wooden structures,
composed of tree lives given up
for the yield of slave lumber
to another species’ cause.
Oh they, the trees themselves,
remember.
They are trees
that still communicate
about and with
those who’ve passed.
The ground will eventually absorb
their wood, their sawdust,
their burned ash
just like it will absorb
their captors in the end.
It will be a long time coming
when we humans,
as vanquishers,
all meet fiber to face.
What sacred trust,
so broken here,
then will mend
but for now
the silent acknowledgment
of service
as popular board stories,
from shade to heat to shelter,
for another species’
adoration to the sun . . .
lives on . . .
