I throw words
from my lifeboat
in hopes of sinking it
while I am saving you
I breathe the table scraps
from you breathe
in hopes of not wasting any
of your essence in passing
I save the excess
of your body heat
in hopes of garnishment
on cold weather days
take me back
to a place of shared confluence
in hopes of your safe passage
before I had these words as conviction
I look forward to the trust in your eyes
but see by the corners of your mouth
that my hopes are you not telling me
the origins of all these truths of mine
beautiful elusive connection tugs at heartstrings
