the want that holds need
as hostage
the stutter that words couldn't save
by saying
the sneeze in the starting-blocks
but didn't get off
the blush that denies
its original source
the one parent that was
least relatable
the happenstance that could not
be explained
the yearning that can't find an image
to represent
the one requirement that is
out of the possibility realm
the way indifference spreads its wings
but never flies
the wish-for that merit will
never realize into being
the odd-man-out theory of self
in real time
the hunger for expectations
full-circle experience as reward
the craving for story endings
that never come in time
the awareness that hesitation has become
a full time job
the manner in which explanation
becomes a crowded room
the fashion in which
others easily walk by
the course of action that somehow is
beyond approach
the forest of excuses that
shadow every day
the yea-buts that hold on
to a grimmer of hope
and the responses,
whose entires lives exist
as the plaintives
for the want
that holds need
as hostage . . .
